KALAMAZOO (MICH.)- The Merze Tate Explorers continued their tradition of meeting amazing women in unique careers during a visit to the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. The Explorers’ Saturday Academy hosted by Kalamazoo Valley Community College, has provided programming that has introduced girls to careers in the floral industry and museum curation. The Merze Tate Explorers provided more than 20 hours of community service at the Crossroads Mall. This free community Trick or Treat event provided candy, entertainment, and cash prizes to youth who sought an alternative to door-to-door trick or treating. Nearly 200 youth ages 0-7 entered the costume contest with smiles and a few tears.
In partnership with Albion artist Jerome Washington, the students created 2-minute documentaries on the women based on research. The students used editing to bring their voices together with images of women who broke glass ceilings in areas of Education, Medicine, and Entertainment.
